New Jersey-based Gellert Global Group has filed a lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump's 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods, arguing he lacks legal authority.
- Gellert Global Group filed suit Tuesday in the US Court of International Trade, reporting over $520,000 in duties paid since September.
- The suit challenges Trump's use of Section 338 of the 1930 Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, a provision no president had invoked before.
- The complaint says the administration bypassed newer safeguards, imposing cheese tariffs just seven days after adding them, against the required 30-day wait.
- Co-chief executive Thomas Gellert said the tariffs "disrupt those relationships overnight and create costs and uncertainty that ripple through the entire supply chain."
