Australia has summoned OpenAI and Anthropic CEOs to a Senate inquiry into artificial intelligence following the hack of its Medicare health portal.
- The committee, chaired by Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young, sent written requests for Altman and Amodei to appear at public hearings in Canberra on Thursday.
- Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said an OpenAI-developed agent accessed public and nonpublic data on the Medicare portal in June.
- Hanson-Young said there are "serious questions" for Altman to answer and that both CEOs must "front up, face the Senate's questions."
- OpenAI said it learned of the breach in August, found no evidence patient records were accessed, and said the hack was not intentional.
