Wildfire risk very high in Scotland as heatwave persists

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has urged vigilance with a very high wildfire risk warning for central and southern Scotland through next Monday.

• The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Wildlife Forum issued a very high wildfire risk warning for central Highlands, southern and eastern Scotland from Wednesday to Monday.
• Temperatures are forecast to reach 28C on Wednesday near Fort William, with very dry weather expected across central and western areas.
• Kevin Dingwall, the fire service's wildfire tactical adviser, urged people to avoid lighting outdoor fires or barbecues in affected areas and to share the warnings.
• Wildfires are already burning in other parts of the UK as firefighters face extreme pressure due to a prolonged heatwave.
