Egypt’s Cash Subsidy Implementation Date Remains Unannounced

The Egyptian government has not issued an official decision on when it will switch food subsidy cards from in-kind to cash support despite earlier statements targeting July 2026.

• The Ministry of Supply has stated that no official date has been set for implementing the cash subsidy system, and current in-kind distributions continue unchanged.
• Citizens receive subsidized goods on ration cards and bread at five loaves per person daily at 20 piastres per loaf.
• The ministry confirmed it is reviewing and purging beneficiary databases based on social justice criteria approved by the ministerial committee.
• Appeals for suspended ration cards have been available since June 14 through the Egypt Digital Platform and local supply offices.
