Egypt forms committee to monitor steel billet market after industry meetings

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem and Investment Minister Mohamed Farid met steel producers and announced a permanent committee to monitor billet supplies and prices.

• Hashem and Farid held two meetings with rolling-mill and integrated steel producers on the challenges facing the sector.
• The ministry offered new billet production licenses with price and payment facilitations to reduce reliance on imports.
• Hashem said a permanent committee of industry, investment and supply ministries and the competition authority will monitor billet availability and pricing.
• The meetings follow the implementation of Decision 121 of 2026 imposing final safeguard measures on steel products.
