Survivors told AFP that a gold mine collapse near Al-Nahud in West Kordofan has killed at least 60 workers, with more still missing under the rubble.
- The Al-Zara mine collapsed on Tuesday, and rescuers recovered 60 bodies by Wednesday morning, with additional workers unaccounted for.
- Survivor Khair al-Sayid Jabara said workers do not know how many people remain inside and need heavy machinery to clear rock and soil.
- Miner Al-Amin Sulaiman said the mine's tunnels are close together, so one collapse brings down what follows, and he believes those trapped since Tuesday are dead.
- The Kordofan Observatory said at least 70 miners were killed in the Al-Zara collapse, revising the earlier toll of 60.
- An RSF local official said the death toll has risen to at least 82, with 50 injured and more workers still trapped under the rubble.
- The Sudan Doctors Network condemned negligence and the absence of safety measures in deep mines, warning that similar incidents are likely to recur.
