The seven-story Saada building in Gaza City collapsed on displaced families Wednesday, killing 21 people and exposing a severe shortage of rescue and rubble-removal equipment.
- The collapse killed 21 people, including nine children and six women, while 45 were injured or survived, according to civil defense figures.
- Civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said rescue teams worked over 30 hours relying on manual effort and called for at least 10 excavators, 30 bulldozers and DNA testing devices.
- Contractors Union board member Aref Abu Odeh warned that remaining machinery could stop entirely within two weeks without oils and spare parts.
- Khan Younis civil defense director Yamen Abdel Qader said authorities registered over 2,000 homes at risk of collapse, including about 150 in Khan Younis.
