Elon Musk has emerged as the largest single donor to the Republican Party, spending $366 million since last year ahead of the November midterms.
- America PAC confirmed Musk spent $276 million since July, including $158 million for the Senate Leadership Fund super PAC backing Republican senators.
- The New York Times first reported the totals Monday, three days before Thursday's Federal Election Commission disclosure deadline.
- Musk said in May he planned to cut back political spending after donating nearly $300 million to Trump's 2024 campaign.
- Senate Majority PAC spokesperson Lauren French said Republicans are "hoping to buy these elections" with tens of millions in spending.
- Musk also gave $10 million to support Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the reporting showed.
- Billionaire families have spent $1.7 billion total this election cycle, up sharply from 2010, the report said.
