A shipwreck dated to 4,400–4,700 years old, the oldest ever discovered, has been found off Turkey's Kekova Island.
- Archaeologists recovered over 30 amphorae and three stone anchors from the wreck, which lies about 30 metres underwater.
- Lead archaeologist Hakan Öniz said the pottery's design matches Egyptian and Middle Eastern amphorae, confirming an Early Bronze Age date.
- Turkey's culture minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said clay analyses suggest the amphorae were produced in workshops in the Jordan Valley.
- The discovery surpasses the previous record holder, a wreck off Greece's Dokos island dating to about 4,200 years ago.
