Kimi Antonelli has taken pole position for the United States Grand Prix as he seeks to clinch his first Formula 1 world championship on Sunday.
- Antonelli qualified 0.179 seconds ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen, with Isack Hadjar third and Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton fourth and fifth.
- Antonelli, 20, holds a 102-point lead and would become Formula 1's youngest champion if he seals the title in Austin.
- Antonelli's engineer Peter Bonnington said he was not expecting the pole, after Ferrari topped all three practice sessions.
- Verstappen said Q3 was not good and his car lacked grip, but accepted second place.
- Antonelli said the pole, his first since July's Belgian Grand Prix, felt good, declaring 'it's good to be back'.
- Antonelli said he must win Sunday's race and needs Lewis Hamilton to finish fifth or lower and George Russell ninth or lower to clinch the title.
