Sony announces end of physical PlayStation game production by 2028

Sony has announced it will cease production of physical games for PlayStation in 2028, moving to digital-only distribution.

• Sony posted the announcement on the PlayStation blog, less than a week after confirming it would delete 550 movies from PlayStation owners' digital libraries due to the end of a licensing deal.
• Hideo Kojima, speaking at a film festival in Italy, said he was "very sad" about the decision and called a subscription-only future for games "scary."
• Sony is facing multiple lawsuits over its monopoly on digital PlayStation game sales.
