Mauritania's president has accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Ajay and immediately re-appointed him to form a new government.
- Ould Ajay handed his resignation to President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazwani at the presidential palace in Nouakchott on Friday.
- Ghazwani then tasked Ould Ajay with forming a new government, re-appointing him as prime minister.
- The resignation followed Ghazwani's receipt of an investigation into August fires at two power stations that blacked out most of the capital.
- The committee attributed responsibility to Energy Minister Mohamed Ould Khaled and several electricity officials, citing an unqualified contractor and unfinished technical tests.
