Egypt's cabinet has said its strategic wheat stock remains safe and sufficient for months, responding to claims that reduced imports had undermined supplies.
- The cabinet media center, citing the Supply Ministry, said the strategic wheat stock is safe and covers consumers' needs for several months ahead.
- Egypt received about 5 million tons of local wheat during the 2026 supply season, supported by expanded cultivated areas and a higher government procurement price.
- Alaa Ezz, advisor to the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said global wheat prices rose about 6% on Black Sea supply disruptions and higher shipping and insurance costs.
- Ezz said Egypt holds a strategic reserve covering about six months of basic commodities, limiting the global price increase's impact on local markets.
