The Economist Intelligence Unit's 2026 Global Liveability Index ranked Tripoli, Lagos, Algiers, and Harare among the bottom 10 of 173 cities worldwide.
- The index, based on surveys conducted in May 2026, assessed 173 cities across 30 indicators in five categories.
- Tripoli placed 172nd with a score of 41, the lowest in Africa, attributed to years of civil conflict and instability.
- Lagos scored 44 points (168th), with its weakest performance in stability (30 points) and healthcare (38 points).
- The EIU stated that armed conflicts, insecurity, governance challenges, and underinvestment in public services continue to undermine quality of life in many cities.
