Elfyn Evans clinched his first World Rally Championship title after rival Oliver Solberg crashed two corners from the finish of the final stage in Sardinia.
- Evans became the first British world rally champion since Richard Burns in 2001, ending five runner-up finishes in six years.
- Solberg, on course to take the crown, careered down a bank two corners from the finish of the final Powerstage on Sunday.
- Solberg still won Rally Italia Sardegna, finishing nearly a minute ahead of Sebastien Ogier, but lost the crucial bonus points.
- Evans, who finished the season on 243 points to Solberg's 238, said the title "hasn't sunk in" and that he felt for his rival.
