Police in New Delhi have briefly detained opposition lawmakers marching to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over a nationwide voter roll revision.
- Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other lawmakers Tuesday after they tried to breach barricades; they were released and resumed a sit-in near Election Commission headquarters.
- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge called Kumar's resignation, cancellation of the voter roll revision and a return to paper ballots "non-negotiable" demands.
- The voter roll revision, begun in Bihar in June 2025 and expanded nationwide, has removed more than 130 million names from draft lists.
- India's Supreme Court asked the government and Election Commission to respond to a petition alleging Kumar took key decisions without the other commissioners' approval, declining to suspend him.
