US judge nullifies Trump deal to resolve IRS lawsuit in scathing ruling
(opens the publisher’s site)A federal judge has voided an agreement between the Trump administration and President Donald Trump that would have granted tax immunity and a compensation fund.
- US District Judge Kathleen Williams ruled that the lawsuit was filed for an improper purpose and that the settlement had no basis in law or fact.
- Williams blocked Trump, his sons, and the government from using or citing the settlement in any proceeding.
- Williams referred Trump’s lawyers Alejandro Brito and Daniel Epstein to state bars for disciplinary action and blocked Epstein from appearing in the southern district of Florida for one year.
- Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had previously announced the scrapping of a $1.8 billion compensation fund, but the tax immunity provisions remained in place until the ruling.
