A Carlisle man has been convicted of manslaughter after leaving his elderly mother to die on the bathroom floor over two weeks without seeking medical help.
- Stewart Irwin, 56, did not call for help for two weeks after his 74-year-old mother Veronica fell in the bathroom of their shared flat in July 2023.
- Paramedics found the pensioner unconscious, semi-naked and malnourished; she later died in hospital from hypothermia and neglect-related injuries.
- Irwin finally dialled 999 on 28 July 2023, saying his mother's skin had "started to turn blue" and she was "refusing help."
- Jurors at Carlisle Crown Court unanimously found Irwin guilty of manslaughter; he was bailed ahead of sentencing on 11 September.
