Egypt's Central Bank Holds Benchmark Interest Rates Unchanged

Egypt's central bank has held its benchmark rates unchanged, keeping the overnight deposit rate at 19 percent and the lending rate at 20 percent.

• The Monetary Policy Committee kept the overnight deposit, lending, and main operation rates at 19.00%, 20.00%, and 19.50% at its sixth meeting of 2026.
• Rates had remained unchanged over the bank's previous four meetings of 2026.
• Urban inflation fell to 14.5% in August from 14.9% in July, its first decline in three months.
• Core inflation rose to 14.9% in August from 14.7% in July.
