Jaiden Picot, paralyzed in a 2024 accident, walked across Virginia Union University’s stage using a robotic exoskeleton and now advocates for wheelchair accessibility.
- Picot was paralyzed from the chest down in August 2024 after a cargo truck struck him while he rode an electric scooter.
- On May 9, he walked across the graduation stage with a robotic exoskeleton and the aid of two therapists; video of the moment went viral.
- Picot said he has been unable to enter restaurants and events without ramps and called for more accommodations for wheelchair users.
- He and his family are fundraising for an accessible van, and Picot plans to seek meetings with state civic leaders on accessibility.
