Vincent Brown, a 65-year-old doctor, has appeared in a London court over allegations he ordered killings during the first week of the Rwandan genocide.
- Brown appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, confirming his identity without entering a plea, charged with conduct ancillary to genocide and six offences of conduct ancillary to murder.
- The charges allege he directed the deaths of six people in Kigali's Rugenge district between 6 and 13 April 1994, part of a campaign that killed more than 800,000 Tutsis.
- Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring transferred the case to the Old Bailey for an October 9 hearing and granted bail on a 25,000-pound security.
- Brown's lawyer Sam Blom-Cooper said his client denied the allegations and welcomed the chance to clear his name, calling the hearing "the beginning of the end."
