China has voiced strong opposition to a proposed US law that would impose sanctions on countries purchasing Russian oil products.
- China's foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said Wednesday that Beijing opposes unilateral sanctions lacking international law basis and will take necessary measures to defend its companies' interests.
- The proposed legislation, supported by President Donald Trump, would grant the US president authority to impose tariffs of up to 500% on imports from countries buying Russian energy.
- The bill's sponsors, including senators from both parties, said they expect to release an updated version "very soon."
