Jake Connor omitted from England's Rugby League World Cup squad

England coach Brian McDermott has omitted Man of Steel winner Jake Connor from his World Cup squad, picking Hull KR's Mikey Lewis instead.

• McDermott said Connor "missed out on selection by a small margin" and that Lewis better fits his gameplan.
• Connor topped the Super League with 43 assists this season but was excluded from last autumn's Ashes squad as well.
• McDermott named no players from Super League champions Wakefield after four members opted for post-season surgery.
• England open their tournament against Tonga in Perth on 17 October with 10 NRL-based players in the squad.
