Yarra council terminates Lime e-bike trial, citing pedestrian safety

The City of Yarra voted to end its memorandum of understanding with Lime, giving the company 30 days to remove its e-bikes from inner-city Melbourne.

• The council voted to terminate the six-year trial and not award a new contract to Lime.
• Deputy Mayor Sharon Harrison said the council has legal obligations to prioritize pedestrian safety on footpaths.
• Mayor Stephen Jolly stated the council is not banning private e-bikes and will reopen the tender if a company meets minimum standards.
• A Lime spokesperson described the council's decision as an unnecessary disruption to the e-bike network.
