New surveys released weeks before the November 3 US midterm elections show widespread voter discontent with President Donald Trump's handling of the economy and cost of living.
- An AP-NORC poll found 80 percent of Americans said the country needs substantial change or "complete and total upheaval."
- The survey found 85 percent rate the economy a top voting issue, and about eight in ten registered voters disapprove of Trump's handling of cost of living.
- A Harris poll of 3,998 adults found 65 percent of independents say the economy is worsening, up from 48 percent in September 2024.
- September consumer prices rose 3.7 percent year-over-year, the highest pre-midterm reading excluding the pandemic since 1990, with gas prices up $1.20 per gallon from a year ago.
