The World Food Programme has reduced monthly food assistance in Gaza from 1.6 million to 1.1 million people because of funding shortages.
- Daily hot meals from community kitchens were cut from 250,000 to 150,000, with hard-to-reach areas now receiving meals every other day.
- WFP Palestine director Shaun Hughes said the cuts stem from finances, not reduced needs or access problems.
- The agency said it urgently needs $450 million over the next six months, having received less than half its previous annual funding.
- The WFP said about 1.4 million people in Gaza, or 67% of the population, face acute food insecurity, with 200,000 one step from famine.
- The agency halved food rations and cut cash assistance to 75,000 families, warning reduced aid could reverse gains from October's improved humanitarian access.
