Ukraine expands long-range strikes, targets key Crimea power plant

Ukrainian forces struck a major thermal power plant in Crimea, the latest in a series of long-range attacks on Russian strategic infrastructure.

• Ukrainian special forces said they struck the Balaklava thermal plant in Sevastopol on July 14, damaging the turbine hall and cooling system.
• The plant supplies about half of Crimea's electricity, and Ukrainian forces said it is essential for Russian military logistics in the peninsula.
• The special forces stated that repair of the Siemens turbine could take two to five months if pumping equipment is destroyed.
• Ukrainian special forces have also announced strikes in recent days on a refinery in Bashkortostan, an oil tanker in Kerch, and the Omsk refinery.
