Tadej Pogacar and UAE Team Emirates have won three stages and broken the climb record on the Col du Tourmalet, as team managers highlight a growing financial divide in the peloton.
- UAE Team Emirates asked for help chasing breakaways on the stage to Ussel; Netcompany Ineos contributed, with sports director Daryl Impey saying his team helped because they believed in rider Filippo Ganna.
- Pogacar shattered the record climbing time on the Col du Tourmalet.
- EF Education EasyPost manager Jonathan Vaughters said the World Tour has five “haves” with budgets of €50-55m and 13 “have-nots” averaging €32-33m.
- Vaughters added that a decade ago there were not four or five mega-budget teams, but now bidding wars have pushed up salaries.
