A Royal Cornwall Hospital employee phoned Pippa Boardman at home to tell her she had cancer, days before her consultant was due to share test results.
- The man, whom Boardman knew vaguely through sport, told her: "I don't want you to worry, but you've got cancer."
- Two days later her consultant confirmed she had breast cancer; she is recovering well.
- The trust said it was "truly sorry," adding the staff member had legitimate access to her records but contacting her was outside their role.
- Boardman said she lost her dignity and privacy and received no apology until the BBC contacted the trust.
