Welshman Elfyn Evans clinched his first World Rally Championship title in a dramatic final round on the island of Sardinia.
- Evans secured the championship when Oliver Solberg crashed with a few hundred metres left on the final stage of Rally Italia Sardegna.
- Solberg won the rally itself, but Evans finished five points ahead in the standings to seal the title.
- Evans, a five-time runner-up, is the first British champion since Richard Burns in 2001.
- Evans said he felt sorry for Solberg and that "it wouldn't be my proudest way of winning it, but it's job done."
