Turkish authorities have arrested the head of the country's football refereeing body, his deputy and five others over alleged interference in refereeing procedures.
- Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced the arrests Tuesday, citing allegations of interference in referee classifications, assignments, scoring and appointment processes.
- Raids were conducted Tuesday morning at the suspects' residences, workplaces and offices.
- Ferhat Gundogdu, president of the refereeing body, and his deputy were among the seven arrested.
- Gürlek did not draw a link between the arrests and last year's betting scandal in which the Turkish Football Federation suspended 149 referees.
