The US Social Security Administration announced a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027, raising average monthly benefits by $75.
- The increase takes effect in January 2027 for roughly 72 million Social Security recipients and December 31 for about 7.3 million SSI beneficiaries.
- SSA commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said the adjustment will be implemented for 76 million Americans, giving them greater financial stability.
- The maximum taxable wage base rises to $192,300 in 2027 from $184,500 in 2026.
- Senior Citizens League director Shannon Benton said the increase provides "a little breathing room" but won't undo the damage of the decade.
