Sizewell B nuclear plant to operate for another 20 years

The UK government and EDF have agreed to extend the life of the Sizewell B nuclear plant until 2055, with £800m in planned investment.

• EDF and the UK government reached a deal to extend Sizewell B's operation from its scheduled end in 2035 to 2055.
• Robert Gunn, station director, said the extension would safeguard hundreds of jobs and allow further recruitment of young people.
• Chris Wilson, from the campaign group Together Against Sizewell C, said the extension created a "multi-generational financial and environmental liability" and raised security concerns.
• The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) said it would work with EDF to review safety and security plans for the extended operation.
